Want to look relaxed yet confident, playful yet and elegant? Then Princess Diana might be a good style muse for you. Scroll down for four outfit formulas inspired by the Princess’s signature outfits. You probably already have a lot of these items in your closet, and it not, we’ll list a few from Mae Threads to fill in the gaps!
Blazer and Jeans
This versatile combo can be dressed up with heels and a structured purse or dressed down with a baseball cap. It’s the perfect combo for looking both in-charge and approachable!
Here are the staples:
- Oversized or boyfriend blazer (navy, black, or beige) +
- Classic white t-shirt or button down blouse +
- Straight-leg jeans +
- Loafers or knee-high boots +
- Accessories: Structured handbag, baseball cap, gold hoop earrings, and/or contrasting belt
Our version leans into the formality of the blazer with a classic red, white, and blue palette. We’ve included the Amalfi Coast tee (would work equally well with the Lemonade Stand tee!), the Carlisle jeans, and a few basics: a navy blazer, a red hat, and white loafers.

Sweater and Collared Shirt
Quiet luxury gets a splash of color in this classy look. When I wear a collared shirt under a sweater, I always feel sophisticated and a little intimidated by myself—ha! It’s a great outfit to try when you’re needing a boost of self-assuredness.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Bright-colored sweater (Diana often chose red or blue) +
- Collared shirt layered underneath (with collar and cuffs showing) +
- High-waisted jeans or pleated trousers +
- Casual sneakers or loafers +
- Chunky belt
In the Mae Threads version, we’re featuring our West Coast sweatshirt and our Dundee high-rise jeans. Neutral shoes and belt contrast with a colorful headband as a nod to Diana’s bold style preferences.

Casual Sweater and Biker Shorts
Did you know that this outfit you’ve been seeing on every 20-something for the past few years was a Princess Diana staple? Nothing says effortless chic like polished hair and makeup combined with unapologetic athleisure. So don’t sleep on this look if you haven’t tried it already!
Here’s the formula:
- Oversized sweatshirt or graphic sweater
- Biker shorts
- White sneakers
- Sporty sunglasses
- Crossbody bag or fanny pack
We have a lot of cute graphic sweaters and biker shorts at Mae, and for this look we chose our gray Utah Crewneck pullover and our sage Bay Ribbed biker shorts. Add a practical sneaker and fanny pack, some crew socks and glasses to round out the ensemble.

Midi Skirt and Statement Blouse
The key to this look is the statement blouse. It wouldn’t be a Diana look without the statement! But if you don’t have a blouse that fits the bill, a bold pattern in the skirt will work.
Here’s the formula:
- Printed or pleated midi skirt
- Blouse with interesting details (e.g., ruffles, high collar)
- Low block heels
- Statement earrings
- Blazer for layering
In our version of the midi skirt and statement blouse ensemble, we’ve included our Zara Capri, our Britney Flutter Sleeve Bodysuit, a sling back heel, and some vintage-inspired statement earrings. We love the simple color scheme and high contrast patterns as a nod to Princess Diana’s confident and elegant fashion choices.

Bonus: Revenge Dress
Diana’s “revenge dress” was a unique look, so it doesn’t quite belong on this list of repeated signature looks. But the famous little black dress encapsulates the four words we started with: relaxed, confident, playful, and elegant. So we wanted to give you a couple options for a similar look, because every woman deserves to wear a dress that's powerful!
- Our head-turning Madonna dress, equal parts playful and glamorous
- Our versatile Vincent Tiered dress, which exudes elegance, confidence, and femininity
Pair with a choker necklace and your favorite heels to complete the look.

Princess Diana was an undeniably cool style icon, and taking inspiration from her style can be a great step on anyone’s style journey. Tag us on Instagram if you try out any of these outfit formulas!
